Bicis y Botánica - May 27
Bicis y Botánica - May 27
Join us for a sunset bike ride on Wednesday, May 27th!
On this program, participants will learn the basics of local botany and dive into stories that consider the cultural and ecological knowledge of the Middle Rio Grande Valley.
We will particularly focus on two plants: Yerba Mansa and Mulberry Trees! We will harvest seasonal mulberries and explore yerba mansa through meditation, storytelling and ecolocial knowledge.
Participants should expect to bike up to 4 miles total, on mostly flat and paved, gravel and dirt trails. Mountain bikes are preferred but road bikes may manage. We will meet at the Rio Grande Park and make our way south past the National Hispanic Cultural Center.
This program will run for 2.5 hours with breaks for rest and observations. Participants are expected to bring water, a meal, a container for harvesting mulberries, a journal or sketchbook and something to write with. Everyone will go home with mulberries, recipes on how to enjoy them and more! Herbal tea is always served so bring a thermos!
